History

BPS was opened in 1983 by former headmistress, Mrs Tan. The school operated from premises in Stamford Road, Bowdon, where it built a strong local reputation for offering a traditional-style education within a close-knit, family environment. Pupil numbers grew steadily and the school became highly regarded in the local area for its pastoral care and excellent results.

In 2011, Culcheth Hall School, a local school for girls aged 3–16 years, announced that it was closing. This created an opportunity to take over its extensive premises, and a group of BPS parents and former staff established a charitable trust in order to do this. At the same time, Mrs Tan transferred her school to the new charity and BPS moved into the new site on Ashley Road in September 2011.

Since the move, BPS has consolidated its position as the leading local girls’ preparatory school, and it has made very good use of the larger premises, facilities and sports field.

Mrs Helen Gee was appointed as Headmistress in 2013 following Mrs Tan’s retirement. She believes that every pupil should be nurtured and valued for who they are and what they bring to the school. Mrs Gee has a strong regard for the school’s ethos which encourages pupils to aim high, challenge themselves, try new things and pursue their passions.

Today, the school has around 300 pupils and continues to celebrate outstanding outcomes from all its pupils.
