Senior School Transition

Here at BPS, we pride ourselves in ensuring that our girls are not only prepared for the challenges of the grammar school and independent school entrance examinations, but also that they enjoy the journey. The girls formally begin the entrance exam syllabus at the beginning of Year 3, so that they are fully prepared to achieve their goal when it comes to sitting the entrance examination for their chosen school.

We support parents through the entire process in order that they can make informed decisions about school choices. Our past pupils join us for informational evenings in Year 5 and Year 6 to provide an insight into the various senior schools. This, along with termly pupil review meetings with the Headmistress and Head of Upper Prep, ensures we work together with parents to support each pupil.

At BPS we understand that a successful transition to senior school also involves focusing on our girls’ emotional well-being, in parallel with their academic preparation. The girls receive leadership roles in Year 6 to encourage independence and bolster life-long skills such as public speaking, learning how to collaborate, think outside the box and inspire our girls to embrace their strengths and believe in themselves.

“Pupils are highly successful at gaining entry to their chosen senior schools. The vast majority secure places at state grammar schools or highly selective independent schools, a number with awards for academic success” – ISI report Nov 2022

“My daughter has embraced every part of BPS life – her studies, friends, music, drama, sports, school trips. It’s brilliant how she can get involved in so much from orienteering to brass instrument playing. I’m so proud of her and my main wish now is all this great input gets her to the school that I know is right for her” – YEAR 5 PARENT
