Year 6 Outward Bound Trip

5th October 2015

An excited group of girls and teachers arrived at the Outward Bound Centre in Watermillock and piled out of the coach to admire the beautiful views of Ullswater and the surrounding fells.  The weather was beautiful and luckily, remained so all week.

Finding our dormitories and making up beds was the first task before setting off for an activity.  Over the week we experienced a variety of challenges, including canoeing, gorge-walking, the high trapeze, fell-walking, rowing, leaping into the lake and a visit to Air Force waterfall.  In the evenings we had a campfire on which we baked bread and tasted marshmallows, did orienteering or group games.

The main difference between this centre and other Outward Bound venues, was that each group kept the same instructor all week, so he got to know every girl very well and could therefore set individual targets.  We were all challenged to ‘move out of our comfort zone’ and push ourselves to fulfil our potential.  Group meetings each day enabled us to reflect on our achievements and make plans for the following day.
The accommodation and food were excellent, as were all staff and instructors.  At the end of the week everyone felt proud of themselves.

‘The more you put into something, the more you get out of it’.  Alice

‘I’ve never sat in silence in the middle of a lake before.  It’s so quiet – you can only hear the birds!’  Chianti

‘It was much better when one person gave the instructions to the rowers, rather than everyone shouting at once.  We worked as a team’. Emily B

‘I can’t believe we walked up to the top of that hill.  I never thought we’d make it, but we did!’ Zaara
