Poetry Recitation Event

Over sixty Prep girls took part in a poetry recitation event at BPS as part of the national Poetry By Heart competition. It was wonderful to hear such a wide range of poetry across a variety of genres and time periods. Choices varied from Sara Coleridge’s gentle 1807 poem ‘The Months’ to the amusing ‘Please Do Not Feed the Animals’ by Robert Hull from 2010. Not only did the brilliant performances prove what confident and talented girls we have at BPS, they also served as a testament to the girls’ hard work and perseverance in learning the poems over the last few weeks.

The winners of the competition were announced in today’s celebration assembly. Well done to Aarya (Year 3), Emalie (Year 3), Anaya (Year 4), Drishika (Year 5), Amelie B (Year 5), Dania (Year 6) and Rosie (Year 6) who have all received prizes in the individual category. The winning groups are May, Emalie and Sofia (all Year 3), and Harriet and Florence H (both Year 6). All winning performers will be filmed next week and an overall winner will be chosen from the video footage for entry into the national Poetry By Heart competition.

Congratulations to everyone who took part in the event – it’s a truly impressive achievement. Thank you also to all of our parents who came along to show their support.
