Bowdon Preparatory School is an academically ambitious and nurturing preparatory school for children aged 3 to 11 and we are delighted you are considering Bowdon Preparatory School for your child’s education.
Every child is known at our school and we offer a broad and balanced education that encourages curiosity, confidence, and a love of learning, supported by small class sizes and a strong pastoral framework. Our approach is designed to help each child develop academically, socially, and emotionally, preparing them for the next stage of their education.
Choosing the right school is an important decision, and our Admissions Team is here to make the process as smooth and personal as possible. Admissions are non-selective. Decisions are based on suitability, availability of places, and the School’s ability to meet a child’s needs and we encourage families to visit the School to gain a sense of our ethos, community, and approach to learning. Whether you would like to check availability, discuss entry points, or simply learn more about life at BPS, please contact the team directly or complete our online Enquiry Form to start the conversation.
Contact our Admissions Team via email admissions@bowdonprep.org.uk or call our Admissions Officer, Mrs Sharkey on 0161 928 0678.
Entry points and admissions procedure
The main entry stages are Kindergarten and Reception (ages 3–4) but occasionally places do become available in other year groups.
Admissions procedures vary slightly by age, but the process typically begins with a personal visit – a chance to tour the school, meet staff, and experience our friendly atmosphere first-hand.
- Kindergarten: children are invited to a Stay and Play session
- Pre-Prep: girls enjoy a Taster Session with their year group
- Prep: pupils take part in a Taster Day, spending time with a buddy, meeting teachers, joining lessons and activities and lunch with new friends
At every stage, we want families to feel informed, supported and excited about joining the BPS community.
Consultation on Co-Education (September 2026 onwards)
Bowdon Preparatory School is currently in consultation with parents, staff, and other stakeholders on a proposal to introduce co-education on a phased basis into our Lower School – Kindergarten to Year 2 from September 2026.
The consultation forms part of the School’s long-term strategic planning and reflects changing patterns in local demand, demographics, and family preferences.
Families considering an application during the consultation period will be kept informed of any developments that may affect future year groups.
