Kindergarten

Starting school is an exciting milestone for your family. From the moment your child begins their journey at Bowdon Preparatory School, we are committed to providing a happy, nurturing and inspiring experience during these important early years. Kindergarten is where many students at our school begin their journey, and is an incredibly special time, which is why we offer a unique and welcoming experience for every child that enters the BPS doors.

Our dedicated, experienced staff offer exceptional individual care and support within an enriched, stimulating learning environment — ensuring every child feels known, valued and confident to explore. Take a look at our staff list to see who is on our dedicated kindergarten team.

What age can my child join Kindergarten at Bowdon Preparatory School?

Children typically join our Kindergarten from age 3, making it the perfect introduction to school life in a nurturing, play-based environment.

How do pupils learn at Bowdon Prep Kindergarten?

In Kindergarten, pupils learn through a wide variety of play-based and creative activities. Through small daily steps, they develop self-assurance, independence and strong social skills. We are proud of our buddy system where every child in Kindergarten is paired with a Year 6 buddy, giving our youngest pupils caring role models and reinforcing the strong sense of community that defines BPS.

The children enjoy a beautiful, dedicated outdoor play area designed to encourage imagination, curiosity and collaboration. We believe that learning should be fun, engaging and rewarding, with half-termly topics that capture interest and inspire discovery. We set high aspirations for all our pupils, and many progress beyond age-related expectations. Working closely with parents, we lay the foundations for a lifelong love of learning among the youngest members of the BPS community.

Does Bowdon Prep offer wraparound care for Kindergarten children?

Yes — we offer wraparound care from 7:30am to 6:00pm as well as a holiday club staffed by the school team, giving families flexibility throughout the year. Find out more on our wraparound care page.
