Inkheart at The Home Theatre

‘A great success’ would be the way I would describe the Year 5 and 6 trip to the theatre to see Inkheart, a play based on the novel by Cornelia Funke.
The coach was flooded with excitement as we departed from school and made our way into Manchester. On arrival, we walked through the doors of the auditorium whilst music was playing, inviting us in. Longingly we waited for the show to begin and when the repetitive songs finally finished, everyone whispered and sighed with pleasure.
Inkheart is a book about characters from stories coming alive and becoming a reality in our world. It is a fight of good against evil. Eleanor was my favourite character because I share her passion for books. In fact, her feelings are so extreme she threatens Dustfinger, another character, with a gun because she suspects he will rob her library!
Having read the book before seeing the play, I wondered whether it would live up to my expectations and whether the characters would look and act as I imagined them when reading. I felt the play was true to the book and the actors and costumes made the story come to life.
The play was mesmerising and it held everyone’s attention from start to finish. I would definitely recommend anyone to read the book and should you get the opportunity to see the play at the theatre, you will not be disappointed.
